Everyone knows that it’s important to brush your teeth. It’s no different for your dog! Read on as your veterinarian Bend, OR  tells you about three quick steps to brush Fido’s teeth effectively.

Getting Started

The first step is to gather everything you’ll need in one spot. This includes a toothpaste made for dogs (never use human toothpaste as it may contain ingredients that are toxic to dogs!) as well as a pet toothbrush and a few tasty dog treats.

Brushing Fido’s Teeth

Sit down with your dog and let him smell and taste the toothpaste. When he’s ready, dab a bit of toothpaste on the brush and scrub one area of your dog’s mouth. Focus on the outer tooth surfaces, where plaque tends to build up, and don’t neglect the gum line.

Give your dog a treat for getting through one section, then move on until the whole mouth is brushed. Finish off with a final treat when you’re done. This tells your dog that allows the teeth to be brushed results in rewards, making it even easier in the future.
